How is the best education system possible?
In this article, we will answer these questions in depth, and the next section will explain how the current educational system can be improved in order to make it more effective. How do teachers teach?
Teachers’ salaries are determined by many factors, but one of the most important ones is student achievement. While a teacher’s salary should reflect a teacher’s ability to teach and motivate students, some countries have high standards for teacher pay, which lead teachers to quit or search for other jobs. Many teachers and parents support the idea that schools should work as human service organizations. This would allow teachers to focus on providing an amazing learning experience for every student that walks through the door. The best way to accomplish this objective is by using online courses as opposed to physical textbooks. Online courses allow teachers to deliver the same good experience day-to-day, without having to worry about whether they have enough time left to continue with all their classes.
Online education has already been proven to be effective compared to traditional methods. According to Gallup, online learning helps learners become engaged learners and improves their skills at reading, writing, and math. Plus, there are few barriers to entry into online courses, such as no previous background or expertise, the internet connection, the availability of laptops or tablets, and mobile phones.
What if you were taught in class?
The classroom was always intended to help students learn more about themselves and each other. But what if students started showing up outside the classroom, not knowing how to read and write, or were simply having trouble understanding what was being taught? In this environment where teachers are often forced to switch from face-to-face classes, why do people still need to go back to the classroom? As someone who teaches English (my native language), I think it is very likely that our students will either find more enjoyment in online classes, or perhaps even avoid them altogether! It seems like a great way to break down barriers between classrooms, increase student motivation, and keep in mind that students are not just learning how to read and write.
Why do online courses work best?
Online courses are convenient, cost efficient, and better than no course at all. They also allow teachers to provide personalized attention when students are struggling at certain parts of the course. Some of my favorite things about online courses are how open and accessible they are (even with Zoom). There are even opportunities to build your own profile, so instead of spending hours creating an extra syllabus, you’re able to focus on crafting a unique lesson plan. And, if you haven’t done so already, you can create your lessons as quickly as you desire. My biggest issue with online teaching is the lack of access to libraries. Having to travel to my local library and then come back and tell my professors something else I want to try is extremely difficult. Online courses work best because teachers are able to give everyone exactly what they need to be able to thrive in their personal lives. Allowing students to explore their passions further, and allow them to see the world in completely different ways. Online courses are the equivalent of going “back to school” for the kids that cannot attend regular classrooms. If I had the opportunity to teach one lesson a week, I would love to be able to take those lessons to every student that goes to school every Wednesday. This is just one example of how it can be advantageous to shift the classroom from the traditional lecture hall environment into the classroom space.
Online learning is a huge topic that needs to be explored in depth by both educators and parents alike. I am definitely excited to think about the implications of technology and how it can improve the teaching process in various ways. With all the hype surrounding video conferencing, online courses are gaining popularity at a faster pace than ever before. There are a lot of advantages to online courses that no doubt should be encouraged, including:
It opens up more time for students to prepare in the mornings and evenings before school begins, saving valuable family and home hours to spend in the classroom.
Online courses are often easier than physical textbooks, allowing instructors to prioritize content that is most appealing to students and meet deadlines/meetings.
Online courses are much less expensive due to lower overhead costs and less administrative costs. For instance, let’s say a college professor spends 2 hours preparing for his/her morning classes, and takes only 1 hour to get ready to teach his/her classes. Meanwhile, he/she is out of pocket for 100 dollars for 50 minutes, whereas it would be $100 to give away only 90 minutes/hour, to save money. That’s the situation you’re potentially in if you choose to participate in a 4 hour-day college course that teaches everything you have learned, all in the afternoon. On top of the fact that the instructor could be unavailable each day for 45 minutes if students are late, he/she is probably missing a bunch of key information that would benefit the rest of the semester. Online courses are ideal for taking offload classes from high school students, allowing instructors to focus on what matters to student’s lives, rather than worrying about getting caught up in homework, essays, and tests for another grade.
Online courses work well for those that live alone or work part-time and don’t necessarily have to commute to campus every day. When an online course is less stressful than going to the library, commuting, and sitting for 6+ hours every day, that is beneficial for a student when he/she may miss classes every couple days. Additionally, the flexibility offered by online courses and study schedules allow students to take whatever works best for themselves so that they can grow and develop personally, rather than simply attending a set schedule every week.
Online courses are wonderful, but let’s not forget that the best type of education is one that is given through face to face instruction, and one that gives students a chance to work with their classmates. To improve the effectiveness of online courses, teachers must be willing to adapt to changes and add new materials into their pedagogy, as well as incorporate technology in a positive way. Students will learn in real life and not just online, so teachers need to adjust accordingly. However, the main thing to remember about online courses is that it must be offered in the first place, and not taken away, like a virtual trip to Disneyland. Teachers need to remain flexible in order to produce the best results. Learning isn’t linear; you never know what changes you will encounter while doing your job. Online courses are perfect for today’s educators, as they offer possibilities for growth, but also allow teachers to focus on the quality of instruction and student engagement, rather than just the quantity.
